Frank was an internationally well-recognized scientist in the field of nucleic acid chemistry. He contributed pioneering work to the scientific community with the focus on nucleosides and oligonucleotides and in particular on molecular recognition of nucleic acids.
He studied base-modified nucleosides as monomers and components of oligonucleotides. Novel reagents for the sequencing of DNA were developed in his laboratory and the biological activity of nucleosides was investigated.
He has published more than 590 manuscripts in peer reviewed journals and contributed reviews on special topics of nucleic acids research.
Beyond his ground-breaking scientific contributions, it is Frank’s dedicated mentorship to young researchers that is most impressive.
